In regards to those with pre-existing conditions? Yes that is the ONLY thing government and tax payer dollars should go to.. But not if it is herpes, or something like that.. The insurance companies could cover those with diseases like herpes, but just not medicines that pertain to herpes.. That would end all of this.. I swear, that man talking? Isn’t an American, he has no clue of what America is and what it stands for.. Those like him? Have ruined this country..
Lasik surgery early on was nearly 5000 an eye.. Because it is an elective surgery, companies that provided the technology, doctors, hospitals and outpatient care centers had to find ways to compete which led it to compete price wise.. We now pay 500 an eye.. The problem IS GOVERNMENT.. NOT HEALTHCARE. Obama is an idiot.. He is ruining this country.. He will be out in 2012 and whoever gets in there better repeal every last bastion of this farce called Obamacare..

Single payer is the real evil here. My brother in Canada says it is OK for a broken bone, or a few stitches, but if you are really sick you will die before you are even seen by a doctor. And Canada is the best socialist system right?

Instead of you guys making things up try debating on merit! For example, the individual mandate is a paper tiger! If you don’t buy insurance you pay a small tax penalty considerably less than the cost of a premium. This will drive private healthcare out of business and then youre left with SINGLE PAYER!

The Fed just hids the red ink that our government has been using to fund dumb socialist programs. I do think you are a very intelligent, though misguided person. Really I am not kidding. Actually, they would argue that our grave mistake was the Establishment of the Federal Reserve in 1919 under President Woodrow Wilson. Which at the time was suppose to help stabilize markets and prevent girations in the markets (the preverbial boom bust) They awould argue it actually did the oppisite!

@luvitluvitbaby Excellent question. We started to go wrong when FDR took over. Up to that time we still could have remained a basic Capitalist country with a free market. And Yes I think the President has a lot to do with the tripling of the debt from when he took over (the Bush Blame is worn out), and pushing this awful back breaking, wasteful Obama care.

That has nothing to do with government. I am a CIS major. The truth is with any technology over time the cost to produce it goes down. In 1972 a microwave would cost you $1000.00. Today you can get one for $40.00.

Obama insisting they come up with a sound business model when they are borrowing billions of dollars from the American tax payer to restructure in Chapter 11 Bankruptsy is not an unreasonable request. If I borrowed $100,000 from you for a business, wouldnt you want some assurances that it not be wasted?

Really??? Could have fooled me, GM and Chrysler are actally profitable for the first time in years! Chrysler has already paid back it’s entire loan already plus interest and GM ain’t too far behind.
nobody in their right mind can think this horrible plan will work. It has already caused great damage to all of medicine. It is time to correct this terrible mistake.

@luvitluvitbaby The dirty little truth about the bailout was that 80% of the money went to bail out the union retirement plans and the rest to build golf cart cars that nobody, NOBODY, wants. Now the union bosses get to fly in jets and light cigar (Cuban) with hundred dollar bills. GM should have gone through Chapter 11, sold off the bad parts for others to make profitable and get free of union domination. Then they could make cars we want. First time in history a president ran a car company.
@redbaroniii Sounds like you have had a fulfilling life! I would just say if you think the auto bell out was a bad idea consider this, the President probably would not have done it under normal circumstances. If you recall at the time he had just taken office we were losing on avg 700k jobs a month, and all credit lending was frozen due to the financial collapse. In normal times they could have gone through a typical Chapter 11 but with no financeer they had to turn to Uncle Sam!

Little house on the prairie couldn’t afford a color TV, car, plane trip. 2,500 square foot home, or all the other things that the those the government calls “the poor” have today. If there was a free market, with competition, cars would be made by at least ten competing car companies not in need of a nickel for the Government. The average cost of a clean green car? $2,500.00

Now you can buy a computer that could run the payroll for both sides of the second world war for under $300.00 (no kidding). 89% of the cost of an MIR machine is the cost of permits, regulations, taxes, and blood thirsty attorneys. In short medicine cost too much because of Government interference.

@luvitluvitbaby There are vast amounts of people in America that are fighting the oppressive, wildly out of control, behemoth run by Obama. They are not socialists at all and they have had a belly full of the arrogance, interference in their lives. They are the future. Or the last gasp of freedom before we all descend into the dark ruin of totalitarianism. The curtain will fall on freedom, and eventually will end in blood as again history shows another socialists rein of terror.
@redbaroniii I can’t say I recall such a time but then again I grew up mostly in the 80’s and 90’s. I would imagine the primary reason you don’t see the kind of system you describe is because probably starting in the 1950’s medical advancements were such that the average individual could no longer afford to pay out of pocket for extensive medical treatment. Medical equipment is a lot more advanced and moe expensive sense the days of LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE!I It wouldn’t work today.

There were no people dyeing in the streets. My dad and I did this, I did this. In a free medical system the Docs compete for business, hell they used to made house calls. Government has limited the production of doctors, leftist attorneys bleed the system, and now Obama will take over everything.
