What do you think of scholarships and grants based on race?

I’m applying for college this fall and I’ve been applying for a bunch of scholarships and grants. Quite a few of the ones I’m finding are based on race, sexual orientation, etc. I don’t know if it’s just me, but I think it’s highly unfair. One in particular was a grant for a First Generation college student with financial need. It was perfect except for one minor thing; you had to be hispanic to be eligible. I personlly think scholarships should be based on merit and grants should be based on financial need. I don’t think certian ones should be available for black students only. I also don’t think you should recieve one just for being gay. Does anyone else agree with me?
I don’t know about being a minority? I’m the only white chick in my neighborhood…lol. I was one of the few white chicks that graduated from a predominately black school. I don’t know what you mean by “what you went through.” The ony difference there is is skin color.
How do I get a grant passed for my school for solar panels?

Our school is in the process of being built, but they have no plans to include any environmental benefits. I was wondering how to get a grant for solar panels (at least) or who I can talk to in order to get a grant.
